The Codebook Preview displays detailed information about each variable. You can access it from either the Variable Search or Selected Variables tabs by selecting Show Codebook from the Settings menu.
The preview includes key variable information such as the reference number (RNUM), question name (QNAME), survey year, variable title, question text, variable description, frequency distribution, universe information, and links to the lead-in and default next questions. The Codebook tab provides similar information along with questionnaire links and the area of interest.
If a preview is not available, a codebook text file is included with the variable download.
The image below highlights the Show Codebook option in the Settings menu. When selected, a Codebook column is added to the search results table, allowing you to view the corresponding codebook preview for each variable.
To view additional information, click the arrow icon in the upper-left corner of the codebook preview. Click the icon again to collapse the preview and hide the additional details.
