Symbol variable
KEY!SEX. Provides respondent's sex.
Information on the respondent's sex was first collected in the Screener, Household Roster, and Nonresident Roster Questionnaire (round 1). This information was then verified or corrected by the respondent in the round 1 Youth Questionnaire and by the responding parent in the Parent Questionnaire (round 1). The interviewer recorded the respondent's sex in the interviewer remarks sections (YIR) in subsequent rounds. Table 1 summarizes the composition of the cohort by sex and sample type.
