(INTERVIEWER READ TO R:)
The U.S. Department of Labor asks you to participate in the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979, Round 22, a survey of how your generation has made the transition from schooling to the establishment of their careers and families.
This study is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Your participation is vital to the success of this study. This study is voluntary, and you may decline to answer specific questions. You also may end the interview at any point. You will receive a cash gift as a token of appreciation for participating in the study. This survey is conducted to understand the labor market experiences of your generation. Personal identifiers such as name, address, and social security number will be held in confidence and will not be released to the public without your consent. All personnel associated with this study have signed a legal document in which they pledge to protect the confidentiality of the information that survey participants provide.
The survey relates your family, community background, and schooling to your career and household paths. As you may remember from previous rounds of the survey, the questionnaire covers such topics as employment, schooling, job training, marriage, health status, fertility, income, and assets. The information will continue to help researchers identify how to make these life transitions more successful.
Parts of this interview may be recorded for quality control purposes. This will not compromise the strict confidentiality of your responses.
