Distribution and Correlates of Unemployment Over a Decade: Variations by Sex, Race, and Age Report, Columbus OH: Center for Human Resource Research, The Ohio State University, 1982 Cohort(s): Mature Women, Older Men, Young Men, Young Women Publisher: Center for Human Resource Research Keyword(s): Age and Ageing; Earnings; Educational Attainment; Health/Health Status/SF-12 Scale; Marital Status; Unemployment By using four subsets of the U.S. labor force, the author examines the unemployment experience of men who at the end of the decade were 26-34 and 55-69 and women who were 26-34 and 40- 54. Results showed: (1) that many individuals with exposure to the labor force are subject to some unemployment over a ten-year period; and (2) the unemployment varies significantly among the four groups especially among the 26-34 women age group. The average cumulative duration is highest among the 55-69 aged older men cohort. Finally, women's unemployment experience worsens as the labor force participation is measured in terms of its duration. |
